Customer Reviews

Brilliant.

Having recently built a fair amount of buzz about his debut album "The Bitter End," Andy Hull returns with the second installment in his concept album trilogy chronicling the tale of a sailor in the 1600's. Ditching the low-fi feel of his initial departure, Hull has opted for a much more polished sound on "The Eventually Home." He has improved his vocals, (mostly) ridding himself of his nasal tendencies and offering up a more than impressive collection of songs on his second release. His songwriting prowess and storytelling abilities are out in full force on this CD, and are sure to attract new fans and please even the most die-hard Right Away Great Captain fans.

Great album

This new album from RAGC is fantastic, because it is enjoyable on a few different levels. Many reviews I've read online focus on the story and the concept of this project, but that is just one cool thing about it. If you haven't listened to The Bitter End, I would suggest getting that first for the reason of the story, but it is not essential. That's what makes this album so good. These songs stand alone as great songs, and the concept behind them as well as the musically progression from the last album to this one serve only to add to the enjoyment I've gotten from listening to this album. Musically, it is very good and also very diverse. Some of the songs on The Bitter End seemed a little similar to each other and it perhaps wasn't diverse enough. That would be my only criticism of that album. On the other hand, my only disappointment with this album is it is only ten tracks. However, maybe this is how repition is avoided. There is a good variety in tempo, in mood, and just in the length of songs. Look at the track lenghts; they vary widely from song to song. That keeps in interesting. This album has a high replay value. Each song is good and interesting and unique and very emotional, but not the same emotion in each song. It is interesting from start to finish and more interesting with each listen. I highly recommend it in conjunction with The Bitter End or by itself.

AMAZING

Andy is one of the best things to happen to music in a long time, from Manchester Orchestra to RAGC he never ceases to amaze. His songwriting skills are beyond most of his piers. His lyrics are thought provoking, his melodies catchy and emotional, and his guitar sounds amazing. He is still so young and shows with this album and everything else he does that he has an old soul.
