Nashville Cats
There is a reason that the Del McCoury Band has shared the stage with everyone from Phish to Steve Earle to Leftover Salmon. Del and the boys are the best at what they do. Check out Nashville Cats, one of the best songs they perform.
A late period gem
This is an intense record. Del has always had a bluesy sensibility that has cross-over appeal, but later in his career that sensibility started to overlap with things going on in indie rock. The song structures and harmonic vocabulary is very rock and roll. People who like the White Stripes will love a lot of this music, and somehow Del remains one of the more traditional guys working in the business. Goes to show that the blues is the secret ingredient in all good American music over the last 100 years.
