Customer Reviews
Live they are fantastic
Great band, crowd pleaser. I loved hearing them at the Festival International de Louisiane this weekend. The samples on this CD are indicative. I plan to buy it as soon as my Uncle Sam Rebate check comes in. Folksy, old fashioned, nice beat, drummer just right not too loud. I compare this to Asleep at the Wheel.
A nice Acadiana gem
I spent most of my younger days in Lafayette listening to a hybrid of Blues, Jazz, Cajun, and Creole sounds so it was no big surprise that a band such as The Figs is able to entertain both locals and visitors alike. The Figs certainly possess the eery southern haunting female vocal and have mastered complex harmony through smooth flowing delivery as if one were floating down the bayou on a chilling summer afternoon. The concept of The Figs' sound is undoubtedly a well planned combination of Rockabilly, Folk, and Blues paired with melancholy, refreshing whimsy and a kiss of southern vocal charm. Without question, The Figs have released another set of tunes for true listener appeal while paying homage to forerunners of folk that hearken back through timeless eras.
Talented, cute and make cool literary references!
Check out the quote on the CD cover - D. H. Lawrence. Harmonies damn near perfect, arrangements clean and precise - with a nice line-up of Louisiana artists guesting. On the permanent favorites list. Indelibly Southern, gives me hope that women can do idiosyncratic fun things. Nice!
