iTunes Review
Recorded in their hometown of Montreal, Stars’ fifth studio album is another gentle collection of shimmering pop songs. Singer Amy Millan sings with a ghostly lilt in her voice that gives real meaning to the album’s title and to songs directly linked to the haunted concept, such as “Dead Hearts,” “I Died So I Could Haunt You,” “We Don’t Want Your Body” and “He Dreams He’s Awake.” The spooky keyboards opening “Wasted Daylight” give way to muted beats where the dreamscape expands with quiet, distorted vocals all the way, building up to a cathartic full-on boom-crash that settles back into the darkness. These are compelling tunes that indulge in their own weirdness without ever losing the thread. “Fixed” bursts into full Technicolor. “We Don’t Want Your Body” is a full-on celebration that merges the decades into one timeless pop tune. “The Passenger” shuffles past like a Belle and Sebastian track. “The Last Song Ever Written” adds somber keyboards to accompany the vocals that hide in the shadows, folding the night away.
Customer Reviews
Definitely will not waste your Daylight or Twilight!
I was hooked from the first note! I've been a big fan since "Heart" and I was lucky enough to see them live with Death Cab for Cutie in Nashville. This record has amazing synth sounds and the voices are so incredibly smooth! I never really got into "In Our Bedroom After The War" so this is a breath of fresh air! Everyone should get it!
Indescribable
I don't know where to begin. Every single song on this album is amazing and touches me in a different way. Stars continues to deliver exceptional music.
I don't always buy albums but when I do I but Stars
A must have for Stars fans
Wonderful follow up to "In our Bedroom". Maybe not there absolute best, but wonderful just the same. They are a great band that deserves greater notoriety.
Great pop beats merged with some of the most intelligent evocative lyrics out there.
