Customer Reviews
Excellent, deep psychedelia
In my opinion, the official album review misses on this one - this record definitely has some dissonant elements to it, but on the other hand, listened to alongside many of the other WWVV releases, I would say this is actually one of their more accessible collections. The first two tracks are simultaneously nerve-rattling and soothing, and have a weight - a heavy sound not found in many of the airy improvs with Vanishing Voice. Track three - (I Wanna Live on) Sunbeam Creek - is beautiful, and sets up the second half of the record perfectly. Dogpaddlin' hints at the direction James Toth would head after departing WWVV, and reminds me quite solidly of some Jackie-O MF tracks. I purchased this and Xiao (which I bought complete on CD) within a day of eachother, and while I appreciate the far-reaching freakery of Xiao, I think The Flood will be a more frequent visitor to my speakers and ears.
