iTunes Review
Costa Mesa metalcore quintet Of Mice & Men step up their game on the band’s sophomore album The Flood. With pummeling rhythms and ferocious guitars, “O.G. Loco” opens revealing that they may have named themselves after a 2004 Megadeth song by the same name instead of John Steinbeck's classic 1937 novella. The screamed vocal shredding of former Attack Attack! frontman Austin Carlile is contrasted alongside the clean melodic tones of second singer Shayley Bourget, keeping things dynamic — especially on the machine-gun attack of “Still YDG'N.” With Bourget taking the lead on “Purified,” the song proves to be the most accessible, while “Ohioisonfire” focuses more on a bare-bones nü-metal approach as Carlile pushes the bar up on his demonic screeching, exercising rhythmic control and restraint. At just under two minutes long, “I’m a Monster” ends the album with a feral assault.
Customer Reviews
Rele good album!
Although not perfect, OM&M did a really good job with this one! Its a little cliche, but that's to be expected by post hardcore bands. They definatelly changed from their self titled debut though. The Flood is heavier, catchier, and more fun to listen to! Here's my rundown:
O.G. Loko: 9/10. one of my favorites. Great chorus.
Ben threw: 5/10. Average song. Not one of the better ones. Riffing is alright, but it doesn't grab me.
Let live: 8.5/10. Great song! Very structured around clean vocals. The album needed a song like this.
Still YDG'n: 8.5/10. Heavy, catchy riffs, this is the song that makes me think "OM&M is back!"
My Understandings: 9/10. Beautiful.
Ohioisonfire: 8/10. This is the breakdown song. It'll be fun live!
Purified: 6.5/10. Good, but almost too overdone.
Product Of A Murderer: 8/10. They went really heavy on this one and it worked!
Repeating apologies: 9/10. This ones very different. It feels like an alternative song. New side to them and I love it!
The Great Hendowski: 8.5/10. Creative lead ideas and a great chorus. Love it.
I'm A Monster: 9/10. Couldn't ask for a more brutal closer!
