The Generosity Water Project... Great Music! Great Cause!
Anytime you assemble musicians like QUEEN LATIFAH, GEORGE DUKE, JONATHAN BUTLER, STEVE LUKATHER, GREG PHILINGANES, KENYA HATHAWAY, KIRK WHALUM, LARRY CARLTON, SHEILA E., RAUL MIDON, GRETCHEN PARLATO, DARLENE ZSCHECH, LUIS CONTE, WILL KENNEDY, and many others.... you know you're in for a treat. Generosity Water is taking 100% of the profits from this album to build wells for the 1.1 billion people on earth who don't have access to clean drinking water! Buying this album is literally providing water to those in need!
The concept of the album is cool too! All the songs are re-invented covers that have to do with water!
The Generosity Water Project is born of the generosity of two Los Angeles musicians, bassist Dan Lutz and keyboardist Jeff Babko, who organized some of their esteemed and truly generous friends and colleagues to create a single musical document. Each musical artist donated 100% of their time, with the sole goal of raising money to provide fresh, clean water to the millions in the world that desperately need it.
The musical concept of the GWP was to include “cover” songs with “water” themed titles (i.e. “River,” “Rain,” etc.), and to match these songs up with artists who could interpret them in their own unique styles. The resulting music created a diverse musical stylistic journey, while retaining a united cohesive sound for the listener. For instance, Roberta Flack’s obscure “River” is interpreted by Queen Latifah. Kenya Hathaway takes on the Isley Brothers’ classic “Harvest For The World.” Contemporary Christian artist Darlene Zschech revisits Stevie Wonder’s “Shelter In The Rain” with a moody guitar pop approach, and Toto’s Steve Lukather rocks particularly hard on Jimmy Cliff’s once-reggae “Many Rivers To Cross”. Jonathan Butler has fun with the classic island feeling “Rivers Of Babylon,” and Sheila E. and her family join George Duke on his original jazz/funk song, “Omi,” which culminates in the family all blowing into water bottles to a harmonious effect. Critics’ renowned R&B/jazz recording artist Raul Midon interprets two songs including Sting’s “Love Is The 7th Wave”, and another emerging jazz star Gretchen Parlato visits the Jobim classic, “Waters Of March.” Contemporary instrumental music is represented by Steely Dan/Crusaders legendary guitarist Larry Carlton, Fourplay/Eric Clapton’s bass hero Nathan East, and soulful saxophone stylist Kirk Whalum. Eclectic musical styles are respresented from the Afro Funk of Fela Kuti to gripping balladry of Peter Gabriel. All in all, the Generosity Water Project is a diverse musical triumph with a consciousness that should raise money to bring clean, usable water to many people.
Amazing musicians, Amazing cause
Great compilation album with lots of variety, unbelievable musicians, and the proceeds get donated to charity, its a definite win for any jazz fan.
A powerful mix of music -- for a good cause
Love the mix of artists on this album, and love that money goes toward water projects in Africa.
