iTunes Review
Detroit’s The Silent Years have struck paydirt here, evoking a sound and feel that’s huge and “major label” when they are neither. Their penchant for layering soaring guitars that might go Snow Patrol any second with an undercurrent of something dark and dirty is brilliant, and the vocals of Josh Epstein manage to dodge a ‘mersh feel more often than not, although he’s got a voice perfectly cut out for the many nuances of their songs. There are cellos, trumpets, pianos and booming drums, guitars that alternately murmur and sear. Whether teasing us with a Coldplay-like sensitivity and then blowing it out of the water (“You Know Your Place”), or kicking out the jams on tracks heaving with surging guitars and keys (“Out Into the Wild,” “The World’s Worst Birthday Gift”), The Silent Years show a striking depth and confidence. Tracks like the shimmering “The Sun Is Alive,” the raging “Climb On My Back,” and the hymn-like “Open Up Our Eyes” serve as ideal texturing tools, each melody swathed in its own sylistic mode. Lyrically, they tackle bigger issues, like feeling lost (both metaphorically and literally) and “trying to escape inevitability,” which just makes them that much more endearing. The Globe was produced by Chris Coady, producer for TV On The Radio and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Great, Artful Record...
No two tracks on this record sound alike. The creativity is boundless and the blend of indie-rock and pop with sound experimentation is totally unique. Like nothing else you will listen to this year. Destined for top ten lists. Excellent sophmore realease!
Rasing The Bar
As a fan of the prior material from these Detroit-based indie-pop maestros, The Globe knocks me off my feet, picks me up and throws me into another universe of newly discovered sonic landscapes. No other band comes to mind that so beautifully balances experimentalism with accessability. Lyrically, nearly every line provokes some kind of contemplation. Musically, there are layers to get lost in, but striking melodies that help guide you along the journey. And The Globe is just that, a journey. I'm finding it nearly impossible to listen to one song without wanting to hear the whole record — it's equally difficult to pick a single favorite track. The Silent Years' singer, Josh Epstein, has a voice that I don't ever want to stop hear singing. If his voice is swooning and swirling melodies of the hardships of humanity and the frustrations of nostalgic longing or yelping poetic croons of wanting to always keep his lover close, the result is always stirring, inspiring, sometimes sad, but always marvelous, always overflowing with beauty. The Globe is flawless.
Amazing Album
Recently, I heard NPR review this album and say that every song on this album is excellent. I could not agree more.
