Album Review

When King Diamond emerged with the archetypal black metal outfit Mercyful Fate in the early '80s, his alarmingly satanic lyrics were downright scary. But as a solo artist, he has become a reliable source of harmless, B-movie horror fun with his well-done concept albums. The Graveyard isn't one of his best, due to less memorable material and a tight, dry production which, while it sounds cleaner than that of earlier albums like Fatal Portrait and Abigail, doesn't convey the dark theatricality of the material as well as those albums do. Diamond's backing band never disappoints, however; guitarists Andy LaRocque and Herb Simonsen contribute plenty of flawless neo-classical solos with imagination and spirit.

Not his best, but not too bad

There are 5 songs I recommend: Waiting, Heads on the Wall, I'm Not a Stranger, Trick or Treat, and I Am. The concept of this album is not my favorite, but Andy La Rocque does some incredible guitar work on those 5 songs mentioned - the arrangement is tight.

my favorite

nobody ever likes this one and i can't understand why. I've played it for people who hate metal and each time I recruit another diamond fan.

One of the weaker offerings from King and company...

As noted there are only a couple of songs here worth any time.. Items such as "Trick or treat" and "Im not a stranger" are wedged in with utter drivel like "sleep tight little baby" and the just flat out embarassing "up from the grave". King is an aquired taste and I have followed him from Mercyful Fate but if anything can kill dedication..trust me "Up from the grave" will do it.
