8-Track Hits

Well, if you still have a working 8-track stereo, this is right up your alley! In all seriousness, there are two fine cuts on this disc, old time versions of What'd I Say and Night Time, two of Ray's classics. The rest is mostly Ray's third tier stuff, with better work found on other CD's.

Some of Ray's great original recordings

Along with my friends, I was a major Ray fan as a teen in the early to mid 1960s. This album isn't 'b' or 8-track cuts, it contains some of his original hits, some of them not that widely available or known today. Every song is a gem and really swings. Highly recommended!

Ray Charles was the musician most responsible for developing soul music. Singers like Sam Cooke and Jackie Wilson also did a great deal to pioneer the form, but Charles did even more to devise a new form of black pop by merging '50s R&B with gospel-powered vocals, adding plenty of flavor from contemporary jazz, blues, and (in the '60s) country. Then there was his singing; his style was among the most emotional and easily identifiable of any 20th century performer, up there with the likes of Elvis...
