Awesome B-Sides for fans

If you enjoyed at all "Young Modern" then this EP is full of great B sides and a couple of videos. If you don't like the direction the band has gone then don't bother getting all worked up and writing terrible reviews.

Fantastic as always but odd

When Diorama was released the US end of the label wanted them to change the whole album except for a few songs, one of those being "Ther Greatest View" it seems as if they realize the mistake they made and are now trying to either A. add "The Greatest View" to Young Modern to push sales of Diorama in the states or B. trying to just cash in on the one song they liked from the album. I found it sad if you are even a slight Silverchair fan and have not heard Diorama. It's one of the most beautifully done albums ever, it did not leave my cd player for 2 years (had a 12 disc changer in my car) . I think every one should get this not only for the wonderful b-sides but to show some love for a band who will only do the same for you. PS Loved em live in both shows on both legs of the US tours this year, cannot wait for 3rd leg next year!

Fantastic...

I'm feeling a weird sense of deja vu about this whole thing. "The Greatest View" is a five year old song, and Diorama (from whence it came) is a fantastic album, but it just feels like Warner Independent is doing this because they're afraid "If You Keep Losing Sleep" wouldn't find an audience on U.S. radio. Having said that, there's a lot of value here for the price. "Straight Lines", as remixed by The Presets, isn't anywhere near as adventurous as some of Paul Mac's retooled 'chair tracks, but it's at least a decent introduction to the rest of The Presets uniformly excellent output. The most exciting aspect of this EP is the inclusion of "We're Not Lonely...But We Miss You" and "Barbarella", both of which were previously available only on the "If You Keep Losing Sleep" EP in Australia. "We're Not Lonely..." brings the same sense of whimsy underlying much of Young Modern, at times sounding like a frenzy-lite version of "If You Keep Losing Sleep", while Barbarella sees the band deftly bringing the glam in a way they've never attempted before. The videos are a nice added bonus, though to be fair, for as adventurous a song as "If You Keep Losing Sleep" is, they could've come up with a much more interesting visual pairing than this. All in all, this is a fairly strong collection that I can easily recommend to newer Silverchair fans who might not be familiar with Diorama; for the rest of us, it feels like we're moonwalking straight into 2002.

Biography

Formed: 1992 in Newcastle, Australia

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Silverchair quickly rose to international stardom in 1995 by mining a mix of Nirvana and Pearl Jam on their debut album, Frogstomp. Buoyed by the angst-ridden single "Tomorrow," Frogstomp topped the Australian charts and cracked the Top Ten in America, making Silverchair the first Australian act since INXS to enjoy such success in the States. The three bandmates gained just as much recognition for their age; at the time Frogstomp was recorded, they were all 15 years old. Although grunge's popularity...
