Album Review

The dissonant, trebly guitar noodling combined with detuned sub-riffing known as nu-metal sneaks into the always-evolving aggro of Living Sacrifice on the group's sixth release, The Hammering Process. Though perhaps considered a suspicious shift by their underground metal fans, this subtle transformation works for a unit used to combining the best elements of metal's many forms into new and original concoctions. In a dramatic overhaul of their lineup, founding members Bruce Fitzhugh (vocals, guitar) and Lance Garvin (drums) are joined by three former ESO Charis members: Rocky Gray (guitar), Arthur Green (bass), and most surprisingly, drummer/percussionist Matthew Putman, whose stamp is all over The Hammering Process, as the Christian metal outfit (and their two drummers) explore different instrumentations and more complicated rhythmic structures throughout the recording. Highlights include the post-hardcore breaks during "Burn the End" and the epic arrangement of "Bloodwork." There are a few bad moments on cuts like the awkward "Perfect" in which this constantly progressing band strays too far from their comfort zone, but for the most part The Hammering Process is yet another success for the multi-faceted Living Sacrifice.

Classic

the album that got me into harder music

SO BEASTLY!!!!

I remember I couldn't wait to get this cd, it will always live, no question about that. You will have your head bangin' non stop! In the hammering process, you will experience: Raw chuggin' guitars, hammer pounding drums, and brutality at its highest! I have been a fan of this cd along time, and it doesn't get old. This was my favorite metal album and will always be top. Living Sacrifice aren't afraid to show their faith and bruce's vocals are just brutal, especially in this album! This is a hard to beat masterpiece. All the song's are awesome and it has christian meaning, that should show you how much this cd rocks. If you want to get pumped up, build muscle, or get a positive mesg, listen to THP!!! Long live the beastly hammering process. This cd is soooo sick!!!! classic. God bless

Beastliest album ever

Freakin' UNBELIEVABLE!!! What a classic. Ok, if you are a fan of hardcore and don't own this cd, you are out of your mind and should be very much ashamed. This is L.S.'s best cd hands down. It's just a masterpiece, and I can't even describe the how much it really ROCKS. What's not to like, The classic hammer pounding drums are jaw dropping, Bruce's over the top screaming is so brutal, the heavy chuggin' guitars will leave you breathless, the lyrics are uplifting, etc. This cd has been my fav for over 2 years now, and man if this really isn't the best cd when it comes to working out, it is certainly the most hardcore cd! For fans of old Norma Jean, Metallica, August Burns Red, or anyone who loves to hammer it when it comes to working out, you should love this. YOU WONT REGRET IT. Yeah, long live the beastly hammering process, and if you do not see how incredibly awesome this cd is, you don't know true hardcore. God Bless, get ripped, and listen to this beast. HxC 4 LIFE

Biography

Genre: Metal

Years Active: '90s, '00s

Living Sacrifice's long and impressive history stretches back over a decade. The Arkansas-based metal band has evolved from their early death metal-inspired rumblings into a crushing, staccato-driven, heavily percussive metallic behemoth that pummels listeners with intense riffage and a decidedly personal, though nevertheless, often evangelical lyrical viewpoint. Founding members Bruce Fitzhugh (guitars/vocals) and Lance Garvin (drums) have survived from the band's original incarnation, refocusing...
