Melancholy yet masterful Gothic rock
David Gala's last solo project was a testament to the concept of beauty in darkness. His morose and gentle overtones combined with gentle acoustic overtones made "The Cataclysm" one of the best gothic albums in the last ten years. Galas returns to form with a rock release which is wholly different yet the equal to that release.
"The Happiest Days of My Life" is a rock (maybe even metal) album full of masterful guitar work, well placed synth and beautiful melodies. This is a wonderfully unique composition that provides a perfect balance of dark and bleak with uplifting and inspiring music. Much of what is here harkens back to Galas' Lycia work but it is certainly fresh and enjoyable. Nothing here is derivative but rather themeatically the same of those days.
If you are a fan of gothic or dark music, this is a great rock album that deserves your time. David Galas again proves that he is at the forefront of this genre and this album proves that his well of creativity is far from empty. Pick it up now!
