iTunes Review

From its opening cymbal taps, “Fight the Power” is one of the most thrilling statements of the Isley Brothers’ 40-plus-year career. A growling synthesizer leads the way as Ronald Isley connects the dots between his neighbors’ complaints about loud music and the larger struggle. (It works, honestly.) Effective enough that it helped take 1975’s The Heat is On to the Number One spot in Billboard, it’s not the only hard-funk nugget here. “Hope You Feel Better Love” showcases Ernie Isley’s guitar heroics (some of the truest black metal of the era) in the context of Ron’s crooning reassurance. The album’s second half brings the kind of creamy stuff that helped build the Quiet Storm world as certainly as Smokey Robinson did. This remastered edition contains a live-in-studio performance of “Fight the Power” as a bonus track.

The Fabulous Isleys!! ..and that's exactly what they were/are- you knew whenever summertime rolled around the Isleys' had another song for you! By the time this one came out, I was already hooked, having been indoctrinated from "3+3" (the ultimate albulm until "Masterpiece". This one though featured the dance number to my first wife's & our Engagement Dinner- circa 1975. Holla if you hear me!!!

A lot of rock band guitarists could learn a thing or two from the Isleys.
