iTunes Review

The sibling duo of David and Robert Perlick-Molinari adore the brittle yet lush sounds of ‘80s-era techno-pop and express their reverence by updating the genre with real wit and zest. The Infinite Music of the French Horn Rebellion is a twinkling mosaic of gurgling beats and rippling pulsations, invoking by turns Depeche Mode, Lipps Inc. and the Berlin phase of David Bowie. For those seeking a sweet trip to electro-heaven, “Up All Night,” “This Moment” and “What I Want” provide sustained bursts of giddy party fun. FHR shows ambitions beyond the boundaries of clubland, however — “Mawson’s Peak” gets playful with its pitch-bending oscillations and “Antarctica/The Decision” veers into cacophonous avant-garde realms. The duo delivers a (relatively) straightforward ballad with “Last Summer” and dip into some lounge jazz for “The Cantor Meets the Alien.” Evident throughout is FHB’s sly intelligence as well as their unmistakable command of visceral grooves. Infinite Music is the smartest dance disc of the season — and a true labor of love.
