The King is Dead, and he named Dave Coffin his successor.

My first encounter with The King is Dead was when Elvis died #toosoon. Not true, but I'll tell you what is true: Dave Coffin's new album 'The King is Dead' is awesome. The king actually heard it right before he died, and he died a happy man.

Dave is a buddy ol' pal and he knows I like the album, so why am I writing this? Well he told me to. But despite this testimony being given under duress, I'm going to stand by it.

Dave put together a few great musicians to form his band. Chuck Anastasiou shreds it up on guitar (check out his own stuff: animatronique.com). Dave Jamrog lays down the drums (check out his site and his Snappy Tracks studio: davejamrog.com). Whenever Dave (Coffin) would play me demo tracks, most of my comments were lauding the drums. Dave (Jamrog) kills it. Kevin O'Brien mans the bass. Not sure if he has a website, but he does have an awesome name.

The King is Dead also features many local and not as local artists such as Al Kooper (of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Zombies, Blood, Sweat & Tears, and Bob Dylan fame), Duke Levine, Ryan Zoidis (of Rustic Overtones, Soulive, and Lettuce), Jason Crigler, Kerry Muzzey, and more.

A ton of time and effort and love was put into The King is Dead, and it shows. Dave is quickly establishing himself in both the Boston folk scene and also the Boston awesome scene (parts of those scenes overlap). You better go see Dave at a show, buy his stuff, get an autograph, or whatever because this album is so good it might go to his head soon. I know we want to see Dave form a drug habit and go all Johnny Cash and have a Behind the Music about himself, I'm just saying get this album before all that.

So, the king is dead. Get over it, let's not cry over spilled milk. Let's weep tears of joy over Dave Coffin's latest album. It's that good.

Who's John Mayer

It reminded me of when John Mayer was actually good. It's a cool breeze on a hot summer night. You've made a new fan!

Amazing, sincere songwriting

What a great album! There's not a song I don't like. I've had it on repeat since I got it. "i don't think you love me" is sooo good. "Bodyless" is great too. My current favorite is the last one... "the king is dead." They all deserve a listen.
