Homesick

Homesick

Los Angeles singer/songwriter Chris Price downloaded a four-track app and recorded this album on his iPhone with no external microphones, compression, or pre-amps. Price’s inspiration was to make a modern-day field recording that was also inspired by seminal albums of the '60s (which used limitations to enhance creativity). It also helps that Price’s songs are catchy and amazingly executed, as evidenced by the opening tune. “Suicide” weaves jangling vintage guitar tones into punk-rooted indie rock rhythms, while Price croons like man raised on Byrds records. The following standout, “That’s Your Boyfriend,” is a gorgeous piece of baroque pop influenced by The Left Banke, with witty lyrics musing on the mystery of beautiful girls. The elegant title track blends orchestral pop of Van Dyke Parks proportions with a timeless Kinks-inspired sophistication. With Homesick, Price proves that you don’t need Auto-Tune or even a recording studio to craft perfect pop.
