Trippy.

My first reaction to this song was "Trippy". Jack's Mannequin did quite a few interesting mixes of instruments without quite so much focus on vocals as is characterized by Andrew McMahon's Music. It seems obvious that McMahon's battle with Leukemia has generally influenced his life and further his music. However, congradulations Andrew. Its good to have you back. "Its good to be alive" -Jack's Mannequin (The Lights and Buzz)

It's Christmastime in California--It's Good to Be Alive

Easily the best McMahon effort to date. The sweet piano is central, as always, accompanied perfectly by soft instruments and percussion. The visual of a bittersweet Christmas is perfect. Andrew McMahon's true gift to songwriting is his ability to compose songs that relate to his audience. Coming from a native Southern Californian, these words translate directly to my heart, as it was so bittersweet to come home from college every Winter Break (running into forgotten friends, being independent and yet not, not to mention a 72-degree Christmas). McMahon puts these complicated feelings perfectly into a song. At the same time, McMahon is obviously reflecting a different, more personal homecoming. In this way, he is one of the most impressive young songwriters I have ever heard.

Jack's Mannequin: Oh, California in the summer...

Like the songs on Everything In Transit, this song is beautiful. The lush sound of the piano gives this song depth and the lyrics are incredible. Having just gone into remission from Leukemia, Andrew reminds us all that "It's good to be alive". :-) This song makes my day.
