Le Petit Mort, if you know what I mean, and i know you do
Laura Dawn, who often sings (uncredited) with Moby (particularly on "Hotel"), here fronts her own band with Moby on bass and guitar, and she is fantastic, belting out sexy, bluesy, orgasmic swamp rock in a big, big voice that reminds one of Janis Joplin but isn't at all imitative. She also shines on quiter (a bit), more melodic numbers like "Won't Ever Let You Down Again" and "If Forever's Too Far." Other highlights include "Why My Baby," "Love or a Gun," and "Hurricane"--oh, hell, they're all highlights--just buy this album! By the way, when Laura Dawn isn't rockin' out with "The Little Death," she can be found in NYC working as the cultural and creative director of MoveOn.org. Sigh. Hard not to swoon over a girl like that.

I heard The Little Death live in Fairfield, IA for the first time and they sound amazing. They really had the crowd rocking. Laura Dawn knows a thing or two about the blues and shes my new favorite female singer.

folks this band is terrific and an absolute must have. Laura Dawn's voice is incredible, you must listen to each song in it's entirety so you can hear all that she does. if you like heartless bastards or laura reed and deep pocket then get ready to move them just below little death. gather round kicks this album off and sets the stage for jazzy blues rock and gives you a taste of Laura's amazing instrument, you will be excited and intrigued. That Bone starts off interesting and then explodes and you will see just what i mean about her voice, WOW. great song. won't ever let you down again brings it down several notches and shows you a different more subtle side to her voice with her still reaching incredible highs. papa done told me is a special treat and then right back to hard blues rocking mean woman. each song is great check out the rest, you won't be sorry.
