iTunes LP Version is Very Creative
Not only is the music worth 5 stars for performance quality and uniqueness (listen to a surf-laden Goldfinger), the iTunes LP interface is pretty creative as well. The hardest part of going fully digital and letting go of a CD or LP was losing the pleasure of going through liner notes and other extras included with each disc. This new media goes a long way to make up for that. I look forward to more!
The best band ever... live!
Anything by Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers is gold as far as I'm concerned. This is a huge collection of unbelievably awesome live songs. A must for any die hard Tom Petty fans like me, and for 24.99 you get 52 tracks. Definitely worth it! Lots of gems in this collection!
Great stuff, but light on latter-day Petty nuggets
Overall, this is a fantastic document of one of the best live acts in rock 'n' roll. I really can't knock anything on this. But I am bummed there's not more from post Full Moon Fever. "Echo," my favorite Petty album, is completely overlooked. The terrific "She's the One" and "The Last DJ" and even "Wildflowers" are represented, but just barely (though the two best songs from the Last DJ are on the bonus disc available in the super-deluxe - and pricey - version at Best Buy and Petty's web site). Again, what's here is killer. But what really kills me are all the gems that got away. Off the top of my head: "Walls," "Room at the Top," "Hard to Find a Friend," "You Don't Know How It Feels," "You Wreck Me," "Echo," "Free Girl Now" ... oh, what might have been!
