iTunes Review

The Long Way Home reflects upon Terri Clark’s journey through Nashville stardom towards a reconnection with her Canadian country background. The album has the feel of a fresh start, and there’s an integrity to songs like the poignant “A Million Ways to Run” and the defiant “Poor Girl’s Dream” that distinguishes them from typical Music Row fare. Clark delivers “Gypsy Boots” with a convincing swagger, matched by the roots-rock attack of her band. The buoyant “What Happens in Vegas (Follows You Home)” and the soulful “If I Could Be You” likewise deserve mainstream radio exposure. The midtempo tracks are particularly good here, with “You Tell Me” (a jazz-folk number sung with gruff-voiced Canadian artist Johnny Reid) and “Merry Go Round” (a waltzing ode to life in the slow lane) having special merit. Throughout, Clark sings with strength and clarity; her return to recordmaking is sharp, sincere, and worth any country fan’s attention.

Up until this week Fearless has been my favorite Terri Clark album. The new cd has every possibility of taking its place in that spot.
I have probably heard Gypsy Boots live about five times and maybe each time in a different version. This new produced version that starts off the album was like seeing an old friend dressed up for a party. I still havent decided if I like it more when Terri just sat on stage with a stool and and an acoustic guitar, but even if I do there is an acoustic version as an extra to close out the cd.
As with any cd there are songs that resinate with you, I am sure each of us will have their own favorites. Right now I cant get enough of If You Want Fire, Merry Go Round and You Tell Me. The more I listen I think that If You Want Fire is one of those songs that I may never want to be without for a very long time.
Old fans of Terri are going to be pleased with the remake of The One You Love, that has the happy inclusion of Vince Gil to sweeten what has always been one of the great choruses in any of Terri's songs.
One thing that stands out throuout this entire cd is the quality of the vocals. It may be Terri's purest effort in that regards, and for a change she gets to sing words that all her own. I couldnt help thinking while listening to it that this is the Terri that her live audiences have known for years, but might be a secret to those who have only known her from her cds.
Obviously I recommend this to anyone who loves country music, but more then that its for anyone who loves depth and soul to fill the time they have for that country music.
The wait of four years is over and we have been rewarded, here's hoping its only the beginning of many more to come.

Great album but...

The Long Way Home is really a great album. But I think how its being distributed is rather odd. First off, the physical cd is only available in Canada and the US doesn't get it until mid October. However this is available in the download only format in the US right now. I really don't know why its being distributed in this way.
