C'est la vie!

I have been a fan of Fisher for several years now, ever since Kathy singing "Oblivious" was included on an MacAddict Magazine issue disk. Software on magazine disks are usually outdated by the time you get the disk, but music never has point upgrades. Fisher's music invariably finds its way onto pretty much every compilation disk I burn. If you are alive, this album can not fail to touch you, because the content runs the gamut from babyhood to old age and everything in between. "The Lovely Years" is a celebration of life, from cradle to grave. "Beautiful Life" is such an obvious celebration, it certainly deserves the first place on the album. "The Lovely Years", the song, that is, brings back memories of my happy childhood in a Long Island suburb that was light years way from city life. It brought me back to my early days of motherhood when nursing my baby was not just an easy menu, but a satisfying, joyful experience. It also makes me wonder if I'll have eyes to gaze into during my golden years. Now as a new grandmother, "Sleepy Head" and especially "Now I Know" are especially meaningful. Who knew I could fall in love with such a little stranger so quickly? How could I possibly have known that I would be so ill when my grandbaby was on her way, and that she would become the "You" who would "make me want to live"? To help me make the choice to "Surrender" to life here and now, at least, for now. The rest of the album is a little more typical alternative Fisher, reflecting on the paradox of hope and fear in taking the chance to love in our adult relationships. And yet, even these other songs are more upbeat than anything the pre-parenthood Fisher has ever produced. I guess it's true, what they say... Babies change everything!

Just keeps getting better

It is amazing what the introduction of a child into a family will do. This is the first album Fisher has released since a child was born to the lead singer Kathy and her husband Ron. Many of the songs on this album are directed to their son, and have a music-box quality to them. Although most will be familiar with "Beautiful Life," which is an expanded version of that which played for Toyota commercials, my favorites are "Surrender," "You," and "Sleepy Head." The former two are pretty much Kathy's vocals and Ron's piano. Just the essentials, but very powerful songs. Ben Taylor lends some vocal talent to "So Much." The song is Beautiful Life I love this song. Ever since I heard it on the commerical for Jon and Kate plus 8. I LOVE THAT SHOW. So i just have to love the song. It is very inspirational.
