iTunes Review
The Mamas and the Papas defined a harmonious mid-60s pop with their very first album and its unquestionably catchy hit singles. “California Dreamin’” and “Monday Monday.” Those songs, alongside P.F. Sloan and Steve Barri’s “You Baby” and other well-known tunes such as the Beatles’ “I Call Your Name,” established the foursome as a group with big ears and hypnotizing vocals. Each member had a distinct persona and role within the group that made him or her immediate relatable stars. Their career was fraught with inner turmoil which led to the group’s quick splintering, but the music kept them on better behavior as these timeless and energetic studio recordings bear witness. As long-time folk-scene professionals, they could do Motown (“Dancing in the Street”), girl-group pop (“Dedicated to the One I Love”), R&B (“Twist and Shout”), and their own self-referential folk-rock (“Creeque Alley”) with equal grace and aplomb. This collection sports all the highlights of their brief, magical career.

I Suggest You Take the Time to Listen
by BiancaaabeachessI'm 14 years old and my mom started playing a tape with several of the songs on this CD when I was like 5 or 6.
I loved it then and knew ALL the freakin words to "California Dreamin.'"
Fast forward to 2009, I have this CD on my iPod, and love to listen to it then, but whenever my family and I drive for long periods of time, we HAVE to play this CD.
My obssession is so much that my sister gets really tired of The Mamas and the Papas and with me for singing along to the music all the time.
I swear, this is one of the best bands that ever existed and it kills me that everyone except Michelle (RIP Mama Cass) is gone. I will never be able to see them perform. But luckily their spirits all remain with their gorgeous, amazingly harmonious music.
The Pre-FakeTalent Days
by temporaryectasy7The Mamas and the Papas' music is reminiscent of an age in which music was based on REAL talent and ingenuity not electronic tampering and a "star" look (hannah montana....cough, cough). I guess real talent today gets lost under all that rubbish that they play on the radio and on television. This IS definitely good singing and harmony. :)
wow
by boom-boom-powIt's 2009, I'm sixteen y.o. and Im so freakn happy that I discovered this amazing band from the 60s!
