Album Review

Lacking the metal guitar crunch that dominated their breakthrough set, Smash, the Offspring's self-titled debut album is a rawer, harder-edged collection, and makes a more convincing argument for the band's punk credibility. Although The Offspring is more notable for its surface style than its substance, a handful of tracks do make a lasting impression.

awesome.

i love the offspring. i have yet to buy all of their albums (i have 4. not quite there yet), but still a huge fan. can't repeat-great chorus come out and play-got a great little guitar riff self esteem-a little different from the rest. change is good lol gotta get away-good lyrics that i think lots of people can relate to all i want-very catchy/up.beat, the song that got me hooked gone away-good lyrics again that can apply to lots of people pretty fly-eh, i actually get bored of it, the live performances are good though why don't you get a job-personally my least fav. on this album, but its ok the kids aren't alright-good song to listen to anytime w/ a good beat original prankster-fun song that i like to listen to when im bored want you bad-got a different tone than the rest of the album. by different i mean good. defy you-personally i think that the guitar and drums are great in this song hit that-one of my favorites : love the entire song, never get tired of it (cant get my) head around you-this is great in the beginning. (the transition from dexter singing kinda calmly to louder)--plus...you get the bonus track. overall-great album =]

An ok collection...

...but it seems to ignore their self-titled debut and Ignition completely and focuses on their most mainstream releases. I'm a huge Offspring fan, but there's some good stuff that got left off this album (like Dirty Magic, Demons, No Hero, the list goes on). If you got into the Offspring later on and liked their singles, then you'll like this. Unfortunately, you can't get any of the earlier stuff from iTunes.

great but dont get it on itunes

i love this cd because i bought it at fye... dont get me wrong itunes has the ones that people know but they didnt put the hidden track next to you on there... personally if offspring did a cd of just cover songs i would buy it. but really spend the extra few dollars to buy the cd and get the hidden track its worth it, their cover is better then the original

Biography

Formed: 1985 in Garden Grove, CA

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

The Offspring's metal-inflected punk became a popular sensation in 1994, selling over four million albums on an independent record label. While the group's credentials and approach follow the indie rock tradition of the '80s, sonically the Offspring sound more like an edgy, hard-driving heavy metal band, with their precise, pulsing power chords and Dexter Holland's flat vocals. Featuring Holland, guitarist Kevin "Noodles" Wasserman, bassist Greg Kriesel, and drummer Ron Welty, the Offspring released...
