iTunes Review

Producer Rupert Hine was best known for working with the Fixx and overseeing Tina Turner’s Private Dancer. He coats this album in production techniques typical of the era: washes of synthesizer blend with acoustic guitars, tambourines, and heavily processed drums. The sound is ornate and even orchestral, but Nicks’ raspy vocals cut across like a flame through tissue paper. A perfect amalgamation of her taste for tune and voodoo, “Rooms On Fire” is Nicks’ most intense pop drama since “Edge of Seventeen.” Hine’s elaborate productions help to elevate the atmospheric power ballads “Ooh My Love,” “Ghosts” and “Cry Wolf.” And underneath all the layers of reverb and synth, “Long Way To Go,” “Fire Burning” and “Juliet” reveal some of Nicks’ sharpest melodies. “Alice” is slow-burning and hypnotic, a perfect late-‘80s corollary to her ‘70s classics “Sara” and “Dreams.” Still, the best performance might be her rendition of Johnny Cash’s “I Still Miss Someone,” draped here in a shimmering, sensual arrangement.

Sentimental? Maybe..

I have to admit, my love of this album might be sentimental. There is no "Stand Back" or "Edge Of Seventeen" on this album. But this album holds a special place in my heart. I was exposed to Stevie on a continual basis (along with Scorpions "World Wide Live") from about the age of 10 till 14 or so when this album came out by my older cousin, and uncle. So I liked Stevie. This was the first "new" Stevie album that came out after I was a fan. I would have worn it out if it had been a tape, and not a CD. In fact this was one of the first dozen or so CD's I owned after CD players came out. Not a fantastic album, but still far better than anything you can buy these days. If you want to just try on a few songs, go with "Rooms on Fire", "Whole Lot of Trouble", and "Alice". Some of the best of what made Stevie sound like she did.

Stevie is a Timeless Classic

This is a fantastic Album what a treat", we have been so blessed to have Stevie nicks Graceing us with her Beautiful Talent for years. This album to me is as strong as any of thee other ones written by her. Long Way To Go/Two Kinds Of Love/and Fire Burning are my favorite songs on this Album. Listing to "Stevie Nicks" is like swimming in a moutain Stream Made of Gold, it is pure Heaven and this ALbum is a must for any and all True Music Lovers it will go down as a 'Timeless Classic!, as will Stevie God bless you.

A cohesive effort

I think TOSOTM still sounds good and fresh- in fact, the first 7 tracks are really very good! Long Way To Go is a great angry song by Stevie. Cry Wolf/Alice/Juliet are much weaker in comparison. Doing The Best I Can is heavy subject matter, but emotionally sung. I Still Miss Someone would have been better as a straight-on country song instead of a half-hearted attempt at reggae. Still, this CD is well worth the $9.99 on iTunes!
