David Lowery has always kept his wits about him. It drove both Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker and it fuels his first solo album ever so subtly. His right-hand man Johnny Hickman plays “exactly four guitar licks” according to Lowery, so it’s mostly Lowery and the members of his recording studio in Virginia filling out the musical space. “Baby, All Those Girls Meant Nothing to Me” is a rabble-rousing piece of guitar-power. “Ah You Left Me” takes a broken heart and turns it into a piece of acoustic balladry that’s halfway to Paul Westerberg and the Church’s Steve Kilbey. “Raise ‘Em Up On Honey” is country poker. The title track whispers and claws with a Southern rock that evokes the feeling of old Pavement records. “Big Life” is one of the late Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse’s final appearances on tape. “I Sold the Arabs the Moon” is a history lesson of sorts in waltz-time.

Very cool

David Lowery has an awesome knack for writing songs that are catchy in a different kind of way. They are always original sounding. Never do u have to ask yourself, self, where have I heard this before? He doesn't care if radio doesn't jump all over it. He writes what is on his mind- not what he thinks people want to hear. That's the beauty of his music. It's just hard to believe this his only his first solo album. Well it's a solid one. Great lyrics, nice guitar work- some of the songs stretch deeper into the mind than most of Cracker's stuff, and that's ok. They are two seperate entities and as long as u accept that, you're golden. Thanks David!

LOVE THIS !

David Lowery should be very proud of this. It's not exactly Cracker, it's not exactly CVB, but it is the best of both worlds and is all David Lowery. If you are a fan of either of his other bands, or both, you will hear familiar melodies that got you hooked on those bands in the first place- but you also will find something new. It's like a present.
Well done.

I hope he never gets tired of making new music. I have enjoyed everything that he's created for a long time now and this one is no exeption. Buy it, love it.
