Album Review

The Patsy Cline Story is a double-record, 24-track collection that Decca released in 1963, shortly after her tragic death. The compilation remains one of the strongest and most thorough retrospectives ever assembled, featuring most of her biggest hits — "Walking After Midnight," "She's Got You," "Crazy," "I Fall to Pieces," "Sweet Dreams" — plus a number of lesser-known gems like "Why Can't He Be You" and "Leavin' on Your Mind." The presence of these relatively unfamiliar tracks means that the album gives a more rounded and complete picture of Cline's career than 12 Greatest Hits, even if it isn't as thorough as the subsequent four-disc box set The Patsy Cline Collection. In short, The Patsy Cline Story is the ideal introduction for a listener who wants a little more than the basics, but doesn't want to invest in a box set.

Very cool

If you are a fan of Patsy Cline and only have money for one cd... this is it. It has every hit, plus some that only touched the charts. Her intoxicating voice and lovely melodies are in full bloom. Even if you don't like country, this is the age of steel guitars, not today's rock/country ways. Truly something to check out.

Beginner's Luck!

I have been in the market for a Patsy Cline Greatest Hits CD. I became a new fan after watching a career retrospective on public television. There are so many collections; I didn't know where to begin. I found this one and its great! She had such emotion and power behind her voice, and she never overdid it. This CD is brief and gives you best with no filler in between material. I highly recommend it.

THE Ultimate Patsy Cline

If you can only buy one Patsy Cline album, this is it!!! The less well known songs are some of my favorites - altho it's unlikely anything will ever top "Crazy". She has an amazing voice - and I'm grateful she recorded at a time when the voice was the most important thing. With a voice like hers, nothing much else is needed.

Biography

Born: September 8, 1932 in Gore, VA

Genre: Country

Years Active: '50s, '60s

One of the greatest singers in the history of country music, Patsy Cline also helped blaze a trail for female singers to assert themselves as an integral part of the Nashville-dominated country music industry. She was not alone in this regard; Kitty Wells had become a star several years before Cline's big hits in the early '60s. Brenda Lee, who shared Cline's producer, did just as much to create a country-pop crossover during the same era; Skeeter Davis briefly enjoyed similar success....
