iTunes Review
Pittsburgh’s Anti-Flag were born with a plastic spoon in their mouth and a sense that all injustice can be shouted down through the fury of punk rock guitar chords and relentless vocal attacks. With the ghosts of U.K. Subs, the Buzzcocks and literally hundreds, if not thousands, of punk bands before them looming, Anti-Flag inject a fresh, feral velocity to the teen angst and adult upset that the have-nots feel towards an ever greedy world. “The Gre(A)t Depression,” the minute-long “You Are Fired (Take This Job),” “The Economy Is Suffering…Let It Die” puts their people-first politics on the table with a tough gnarly snag. But it’s the anthemic chug of “We Are the One,” with its siren-wailing guitars and unison vocals, that delivers the spine-chilling solidarity the best punk rock provides. It’s a tad ironic to describe a punk band as upholding a “tradition” but Anti-Flag do easily slot in as dedicated followers of punk tradition, delivering hooks and rage with no sense of surrender.
Customer Reviews
One for "The People"
After the rather disapointing release of "The Bright Lights of America", Anti-Flag has come back swinging with an album that is a forceful and engaging return to their roots. The rousing lyrics and outcries heard on tracks like "When All the Lights Go Out", "Sodom Gomorrah Washington D.C.", and "The Economy is Suffering....Let it Die", havent been heard as forcefully or with the same in your-face-punk and hardcore elements since "Terror State". Overall the album is definitely worth buying for any anti-flag fan, old or new and yes even for those who had given up on Anti-Flag. -My one complaint is that minus the pre-order bonus tracks from sideonedummy and itunes the album really only comes in at 9 tracks + the single although itunes includes the video. And hopefully they will release the EP "Which side are you on?" separately for those who missed that opportunity.
Choose The People.
This album has such an amazing vibe to it. I don't believe Anti-Flag needed redemption from their last album (and I am probally one of the few people to think that), but this was definutely a step in the right direction to prove they are still kick a** and taking names! When I first listened to it, I was awestruck, so I had to listen to it a second time to actually take in what they did to overcome the publicity of the negativity that shrouded them from "Bright Lights of America". My favourite tracks are "The Gre(A)t Depression", "No War Without Warriors", "Teenage Kennedy Lobotomy", "When All the Lights Go Out"... actually, Just buy the whole album, and trust me, you will NOT be disappointed.
Given Up On Anti-Flag?
Who's given up on Anti-Flag? If you actually go through Bright Lights song by song you may realize that it's not such a "disappointing" album. But anyway on to the review. This album is everything you could want from Anti-Flag. This record actually captures the essence of Anti-Flag and brings heart into an album that could have been robotic, standard, and ordinary. This record does what records are supposed to do and that's to make the listener feel like the band is there with them, and this album should have you banging on the steering wheel, and letting the passion filled verses and choruses radiate from your car!
