iTunes Review

The crawling, surreal Houston rap style known as “screw” has gained a nationwide profile, with representatives like Paul Wall taking it way beyond Texas. He claims to be a fan above all, but behind his modesty is a convincing spitter with a stack of tracks that sound laden with doom even as he and his crew are simply bragging about their cash or celebrating their syrup habits. “Sittin’ Sidewayz,” Wall’s breakout single, is a spectral, echoy track that makes partying sound as threatening as an escaped prisoner. Similarly, “Trill” wouldn’t sound out of place in a horror movie; its placement in the sequence helps demonstrate a seeming intent to continually slow the album’s tempo until it has no choice to pick up (a little) speed with the Kanye West-produced “Drive Slow.”

This 1's worth buyin ppl (the rating is sposed 2 be 4.5)

Now this is Paul Wall's first major debut, and he is from Houston, so you gotta forgive the obvious copy-catting of the much more successful Mike Jones and Slim Thug. However, People's Champ has much more variety then Who Is Mike Jones and Already Platinum. There's more to this album then just "how the G's live in Houston." This is especially displayed in themed songs like "Internet Going Nutz" and "Drive Slow". The "They Dont' Know" on this album is not the "They Don't Know" you saw on MTV, with Mike Jones doin that awesome verse in the middle, but that's the only big deal here. Overall, this is a pretty good album if you're into Houston rap, and I'd say it is worth the 12 bucks.

America tends to lift up those who are white in the rap game just to see if their talented, Paul Wall can handle the pressure and does not claim to be better than anyone. With a humble attitude and love for Hip Hop, stop hattin and start flowin wit the man who tends to sit sidewayz...

crap

if you like people rapping about their teeth, you'll love Paul Wall! Things like this is what's putting a bad name on hip-hop. go buy the Talib Kweli cd (Right About Now) instead. that's real rap, instead of this garbage.

Biography

Born: March, 1980

Genre: Hip Hop/Rap

Years Active: '00s

MC and DJ Paul Wall (born Paul Slayton) grew up as a hardcore disciple of fellow Houstonian DJ Screw and became so familiar with the pioneering DJ's woozy, slowed-down style of remixing that he had to adjust to hearing hip-hop at any other tempo. Prior to making a nationwide breakout in 2005 with a guest spot on Mike Jones' "Still Tippin'" and his major-label debut, The Peoples Champ, Wall was involved with promotional street teams, DJed parties, put together underground mixtapes, and was half of...
