STUART ACHIEVES ARTISTIC INTEGRITY
The Marty Stuart of the eighties and early nineties is no more. He has morphed into an artist of integrity, depth and character. And this CD placed him there. This work is simple yet layered. Tells a story but has many subplots. The music is charming and evil, hot and cold, ying and yang. I was too late to the debut of this CD but I caught it in 2004 and have been singing its praises since then. Even non fans of country music should have a listen. A breakout piece of work for an artist long time comin. I'd shake your hand and give you a kiss, Marty. It's that good.
One of the best Country albums of all time
This album takes Marty to a whole new level as far as I'm concerned. Not only one of the best concept albums ever, but one of the best albums ever, Period. The best way to experience it is to sit down, remove all distractions, and listen to it form start to finish. Marty pours his heart out on this one and you can tell. Most of these songs by themselves are exceptional, but when you place them in the context of the story Marty's telling, it ranks up there with Pink Floyd's "The Wall", and The Who's "Tommy".
A Master Musician!
This is hands down, the greatest country music album of all time. The songs, the intrumentation, the playing and the vocals are perfect. Every now and then magic happens, and such is the case here. The whole cast (Johnny Cash, Pam Tillis, Emmylou Harris, Ralph Stanley & George Jones) play their parts so well you can see this story taking place. This for 10 bucks is the deal of a lifetime.
