Stunning.

This is an amazing album that will take you for a galactic ride.

Incredible and Imaginative

Michael Lemmon, you are incredible! The Planets is an absolutely wonderful tribute to the nine planets of the Solar System. (I still say Pluto's a planet, no matter what NASA thinks.) You captured the spirit of each planet perfectly in your tracks. The entire album is a playground and fertile garden for my imagination.
Mercury is one of my favorites, for its extensive and ominous yet inviting beginning; once it gets going, I can imagine the electromagnetic pulses of the Sun washing over the little bare sphere of rock. I can feel the weight of the cloud-masses of sulphur in Venus, and hear the gritty sandstorms and harsh winds in Mars. Jupiter exemplifies the planet's gigantic, foreboding size and terrific winds and its crushing atmospheric pressure...and yet, right in the middle, you have that tiny, uplifting twinkle that sounds like stars shining through Jupiter's atmosphere. And then you go on to Saturn, with those spacious pauses between wide-open brass movements of pure wonder...quiet, contemplative wonder. I see Saturn floating in the sea of stars, bright beautiful yellow against the featureless void. Uranus is curious and oddly structured, just like the planet's tilted axis, but it's still inspiring in its echoing notes. It makes me want to explore the planet and find out more. Neptune is another of my favorites, for its incredibly serene feel. I feel like I'm floating in Neptune's sea-green clouds, aimlessly wandering and not caring...it's so beautiful I don't need to hurry anywhere to enjoy it.
But Pluto...Pluto is the icing on the cake. There is no better way, ever, you could have ended the album. Neptune is serene...Pluto is serene and eternal. I listen to Pluto, and it makes me want to die of tranquility. I can feel the vast distance, the vast gulf between Pluto and the Sun. I can see Pluto silently orbiting at the Solar System's very edge for eternity, with Charon keeping it company. Pluto's track is completely at peace with itself and the universe, to such a degree it's emotional and moving. You make a little ball of rock beautiful, beautiful beyond measure. My words can't describe it, so I just listen to it over and over again.

If you make another album of space music, I will buy it, and listen to it, and it will inspire my art, like The Planets does. Your work is truly wondrous and terrific, Mr. Lemmon. I can't wait to see more.

Mesmerizing...

I first heard this music as the soundtrack for Greg Martin's "Experience The Planets" Project website, and I tracked it through Michael Lemmon's site, to Neue, and finally here to iTunes. I'm really glad I did! In adition to being the perfect soundtrack to Mr. Martin's collaborative website, this music is perfect for something else, too. Now I have the pleasure and joy of listening to it over and over until I figure out just what that something else is. Until then, I'll let the music carry me off to dreams and visions unknown...
