I can taste the waste!

Ween's second studio album is not for the faint-of-heart. Definitely some of the strangest music recorded in the 90's, yet within their still beats at it's heart a pop band waiting to find it's audience. Not for people who rock out to American Idol, this album (as well as most of Ween's discography) stakes it's claim on music inspired by the classics, but bent like the reflection of a funhouse mirror. A great album to listen to if you are a recording newbie. Learn from the masters of low-fi silliness.

Yes, nitris-enhanced THC had its effect on this sprawling work. But revisiting this album 20 years after I first discovered it in college, what stands the test of time is the pure songwriting genius throughout. With tweaking, nearly every song could be a "hit" by a more coherent/successful band/artist. Holding each back are compromises in production quality and in lyrical clarity, but that's what makes the album special, and every song an inside joke you feel you're in on.
