iTunes Review

The Power and the Glory Hole is a Faster Pussycat album in name only — and not just the perverted pun of the title, a recapitulation of the band’s sleazy sense of humor. Vocalist Taime Downe is the only remaining original member. The rest of the lineup comes from the Newlydeads, Downe’s post-Pussycat industrial band. This album aims to merge the two divergent strands of Downe’s music career — glam metal and industrial, two genres that fit together about as well as new wave and heavy metal. But against all odds, The Power and the Glory Hole works. Underneath the layers of pile-driver guitar and battering-ram drums, “Gotta Love It,” “Sex Drugs and Rock-n-Roll” and “The Power & the Glory Hole” have the same bluesy Aerosmith-derived strut of the band’s early songs. Rather than obscure the music, the industrial tilt helps to modernize the band’s old tricks. The fusion doesn’t always work —“Useless” and “Porn Star” are somewhat aimless — but “Number 1 With a Bullet” and a cover of Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Were Made for Walking” prove that Downe’s dubious synthesis might actually be the recipe for a whole new strain of modern-day metal.

Awesome FPC album!

What a cool album for Taime and the guys to come out with... the cover of "These Boots" by far beats Megadeth's version, it has kind of an industrial twist to it. The last two tracks are obviously, as said in last review, tributes to Bianca Haltstead of Betty Blowtorch. All the songs are pretty kickin'... I say don't skimp out by getting a track or two, but buy the whole album.

Not quite the old FP you know but...

I Love It! Sounds alot more modern and I think it works. Porn star and Power and the glory hole are cool, Tracks 10 & 11 are a great tribute to Bianca from Betty Blowtorch. The only original member is Taime but I think it rocks.

AWESOME ALBUM!

AMAZING

Sleazy Hollywood metal band Faster Pussycat (whose name was lifted from a Russ Meyer flick) released their first album in 1987 and peaked commercially two years later with the gold album Wake Me When It's Over and the Top 40 single "House of Pain." Although their next album, 1992's Whipped, hit number 90 on the charts, it fell off quickly; with the alternative rock explosion, the hard rock audience had changed and had no patience for Faster Pussycat's trashy glam metal. After the group's split, singer...
