They call it Mountain Rock and Roll...

...but the rest of us just call it a helluva good time. This debut album by the hardworking band out of the Piedmont area of NC sees 44 Love lay down some of its most popular tracks from the live shows of the past year. If you don't live in NC or perhaps haven't stumbled upon this band on your travels through the central part of the state, I highly recommend you check them out.

First, full disclosure: I have known most of the guys in the band for years, so this is not a completely unbiased review. With that said, if you like your southern rock with a little bit of an edge, you should give these guys a shot. From the opening track, Blue Train, you'll hear the influence of Skynyrd and the other southern rock greats. Don't let that fool you. This is no knock off of the boys from the swamp.

44 Love never hesitates to throw in a little more growl, ala the Drive by Truckers, in tracks such as Burning Tree and 44 Love. You'll even hear some metal influence and even a touch of 60's classic rock in tracks like Gasoline and Turbo Brown. And of course you can't have a southern rock, excuse me, mountain rock, album without a couple of epics like Road to Alabama and The Devil Can Wait.

If you're a fan at all of the evolution of rock and roll in the Southeastern USA, you should drop a ten spot and pick up this album. From the great lyric work from front man/bassist Levi, to the solid riffs from Bart on guitar, to the energized beats from drummer Jason, to the lead guitar work from Jordan that echoes an interesting blues and bluegrass influence, you won't be disappointed in this new band from North Carolina.

Pick up this debut album and if you're passing through NC, check out the local venues and see if you can catch them live. It's a great show!

The Road to Alabama

Be sure to have a mop handy,'cause 44 Love's The Road to Alabama, melts faces with no remorse. They bring a side of Rock/Southern Rock that hasn't been experienced on this level in decades. Their songs tell true stories of bar fights, broken hearts, cheap whiskey and revenge. It's music you can drive to, work to, or just plain enjoy for it's raw, unfiltered honesty. But beware... It's awesomeness will leave you wanting more.
