iTunes Review
With Joshua Radin’s third LP, the Cleveland singer/songwriter eschews much of the restrained approach found on his former albums to create something a little more upbeat and lively. Electric guitars are bolstered by a bigger presence of a drum kit and a pedaling bass which all come together nicely to contrast Radin’s milky smooth singing inflections — this is more noticeable on the chorus with Radin’s impassioned melodies. “Here We Go” moves with seductive rhythms as a distorted synth line intertwines with vibrant guitar leads making for a tune that’s actually danceable before a more angular post-punk inspired beat ushers in the catchy and driving “We Are Only Getting Better.” The title-track downshifts with a romantic ditty that’s a little too hip to be called a ballad, especially with those '60s-sounding guitar parts on the break, giving the song a hushed cool that would sound right at home on a mix between Jack Johnson and Neil Halstead.

Not the Joshua Radin that I know
I am a Huge Joshua Radin fan. I am not reviewing this album to prevent other people from buying it but rather to try and get Josh's attention. Everything that made his other albums amazing is lacking here. If I could give this album two words, it'd be "over produced". If this is where Joshua wants to head as an artist, I will support his art. However, although I would buy his future albums if this is where he is headed, I would not listen to them. Joshua - either the last two albums were you or they were not. Either you are the artist that we all fell in love with or you aren't. If you want to change it up so drastically, I am sure you will find different fans. If I had never heard your other albums I might appreciate this one. However, this was such a drastic departure from your previous brush strokes that I don't even recognize the canvas. Again - I love your/his music so I'll continue to consume. I now just have to wait another year or so for the next authentic Joshua Radin album to come out.
Hell no
This is seriously disappointing. It starts out like a Weezer or Killers album. Heavy drums, way more prevalent electric guitar, stupid background vocals. I get it, he went for an A.A. Bondy sound. He failed. Miserably. I was a fan because of great vocals and clean acoustic guitar. Compare "Here We Go" of this album to any song off "First Between Third And Forth". This sounds way more like Phoenix than a guy with an acoustic guitar. I love those other bands, but this just gets stuck somewhere in between and sounds like crap.
ehhh, so so
I don't love it which pains me to say as I have been eagerly awaiting this release for months! Am a huge Joshua Radin fan, can't think of a song prior to this album that I didn't love. There are a few gems on this otherwise ok album. I think his voice is best suited to light airy etheral sounds and some of the songs just do not do him justice. Lyrically though he is as good as ever.
