Album Review

Known as "the father of Christian rock," singer and songwriter Larry Norman's project In Another Land was first released in 1975. It was then reissued by Solid Rock Records in 1993. Combining rock & roll music with Christian lyrics, Norman created controversy while at the same time birthing the contemporary Christian music genre. In Another Land contains some of his most well-known songs, including "The Rock That Doesn't Roll," "Righteous Rocker #3," "Why Don't You Look Into Jesus," and "I Am a Servant." The 1993 re-release also features four bonus tracks consisting of "Looking for Footprints" and "Strong Love, Strange Peace."

Part Three Of "The Trilogy"...

This one actually got exposure in both popular and religious music stores. Songs 16 to 18 are bonus tracks, not found on the original release.

If you do not have any Larry Norman music, please get this one first. You will be exposed to Larry's wit and wisdom at it's creative best.

He is the father of Christian Rock.

Now sadly most of the chrisitian labels are owned by secular lablels and they are easily a billion dollar industry. This man had to create his own label. He took on social issues of racism and poverty and having a relationship w/ Jesus. He actually received death threats becaue no else was doing it. He started the concept of Jesus and Rock-n Roll. This is a GREAT album. As Larry says "Why should the devil have all the good music".

My All-Time Favorite Larry Norman Album!

This was the FIRST "Christian" album that I ever bought (before I was a Christian) and it's still one of my favorites. If you love great songs, first class production and musicianship, thoughtful and intelligent lyrics - this one's for you. Any one of the trilogy albums (Planet, Garden, Land) are among my top favorites by anyone ever, but this one holds a special place for me. I was blown away when I first heard it and I still love it thirty-plus years later. It's a keeper and a real bargain with the bonus tracks - get it today and you'll want more of Larry's musical legacy. iTunes - Keep the Larry Norman coming!

Biography

Born: April 08, 1947 in Corpus Christi, TX

Genre: Christian & Gospel

Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s

The founding father of Jesus Rock, Larry Norman wed the rhythms of pop music with the spiritual and social outlook of Christianity to create a kind of flower-power gospel. While his efforts were instrumental in shaping the sound and themes of contemporary Christian rock, Norman never enjoyed the commercial success or acceptance afforded to his musical descendants, admitting his sensibilities were "too secular for the Christians and too Christian for the secularists."
