Best Album of the Year
Melodic and Soulful, "The Ryan Edgar Project" will stake a claim on your CD player that will be difficult to undo! He's got the funky groove of Stevie Wonder and the vocal excellence of John Legend, but he adds his own twist of quirk to the picture, and I'm a big fan of the vocals. From the first riff of the lively opener, "Delayed," I was drawn in to this lavish sound. Edgar injects a lot of himself into these five Soul/Pop/Rock tracks, revealing generous glimpses of his journey as he works through issues of love, loss and life. All the big ones. "A Different Beautiful" has tiny touches of beauty sprinkled throughout, such as the charming string section and distinctive phrasing of "Out Of Hand," the hard hitting groove of pop-soul thumper "Love More," and the poetic lyrics of stark ballad, "We Become." Ryan Edgar is a master of the Soul/Pop/Rock genre, offering up hook-filled, contagious songs of sheer fun, at times containing the added bonus of solid life truths. His breezy melodies match perfectly with those husky vocals, and perfectly constructed musical arrangements, combining to present a seemingly effortless accessibility. This album, Edgar's first, makes it easy to understand why this artist will begin, and continue, to gain ever-increasing popularity.
Great Music
If you like Gavin DeGraw, Robyn Thicke, or any soulful funk star, you will like this album. This Album is full of incredible guitar licks, drum beats etc. but the most impressive instrument in this music is the vocal range and creativity of Ryan himself.
