Too Many Tracks Repeated from Earlier Albums!

This is a difficult album to rate. On its own, its a strong presentation of mid-70's Up With People. However it repeats far too many tracks from earlier albums.

The repeats comprise 6 of the 12 tracks. "What Color Is God's Skin?" and "Where the Roads Come Together" are direct repeats from "The Further We Reach Out," "Rippin' Along," "Pie in the Sky," and "Makin' Music" are lifted from "Livin' On," and the recording of "Up With People" is taken way back from the original "Sing Out Musical." To my way of thinking, this is simply too many repeats to justify a new album; as is the case with "Frontiers of Tomorrow," this album is little more than a "greatest hits" album without being called such.

With respect to the new music, "The Farmhouse" and "Save the Dancer" are very strong songs, "Two Hundred Years and Just a Baby" is UWP's contribution the the U.S. Bicentennial literature (and, as most of the Bicentennial commemorations, pretty banal). The other three tracks are solid but not spectacular.

The album is well-engineered and the performances are good.

By itself, this album rates 3 stars and "recommended." However, in the bigger picture of the entire UWP discography, I can't recommend it -- buy the individual tracks.
