Album Review
Although their songs imply otherwise, the Hailey brothers had extensive careers in gospel before turning to secular music. The wails, shouts, and yells that accompany most of their hits reaffirm that tradition, and it's clearly audible often on their latest Uptown entry. Again they employ a running storyline/theme through the disc, this time incorporating audio vignettes about life on and off stage during a concert that are interspersed through the disc and help pad things out through what is a poorly edited and sequenced CD. Unlike many other urban and R&B groups, Jodeci doesn't really produce its material with singles in mind; there's not really one song here that works as a separate entity, even though several stations are playing edited cuts. Ironically, their refusal to emphasize radio hits, which in most cases would be deemed a sage creative ploy, frequently works against Jodeci. They let ballads drone on, up-tempo tunes end awkwardly, and extend sections until they lose their impact. However Jodeci's earnestness and enthusiasm often helps them overcome cliched lyrics and melodramatic vocals, and there are enough good moments sprinkled throughout this disc to make it worthwhile for most urban contemporary listeners.
Customer Reviews
Jodeci at their best!
If people want to listen to Biggie - go listen to Biggie and post a comment on his album page. Don't do it here. This isn't even in the same genre. Only people who understand and feel Jodeci can appreciate this masterpiece. "Good Luv" has always been one of the classics that never really made it to the mainstream but always finds its way to the top of my iTunes playlist. "Pump It Back" and "Freak'n You" are also amongst the many great songs on this album. Sure there are a lot of interludes and intros but if you listen to them, they actually do an excellent job of building up to and setting the mood for the upcoming song. Well executed album - definitely need a Jodeci reunion!
True review
This album is the the quentisential follow-up to the “Diary of A Mad Band”. The group matures in its 3rd and final effort. You can definitely fell the west coast colabo effort with this edition. This ablum is a progression of the Jodeci style and effort if if you are not circa 1995 you wouldn’t know. This album is consistent with the two prior albums. A blend of “Get on Up” southern blend and West Coats tracks throughout the album are the truth. From beginning to the end JODECI puts forths the Effort “WHAT?”. Every track in this this ablum is a winner. Jodeci ya'll need need to get it together for another album!!

If you aren't into Jodeci, then you don't know what you have been missing. It's R&B not hard core hip hop for those that don't know. Only for the Grown and Sexy. For those that know what happens when Jodeci is being played then... for those that don't.. simply TOO BADD!!!
