before peter got to shine

This is really Genesis at its weakest point during the Gabriel era. Under the heavy influence of Jonathan King who "discovered" the band, Genesis' first recordings sound an awful lot like an improved version of the Bee Gees. After breaking with Decca and contracting with Charisma Records, Peter Gabriel had the freedom to lead the band into it's most stunning and beautiful realizations. By the way, in response to "Peter Gabriel ""featuring"" Genesis," you realize that when Gabriel was fronting the band he WAS Genesis? The band took on an entirely different (and highly superficial) sound when Gabriel quit. Phil Collins wasn't even in the picture until 1970--the third official drummer to have supported the band. A distinction must always be made; Collins or Gabriel. Collins' Genesis is top-of-the-line in catchy-eighties-pop, but utterly lacks the genius and depth of Gabriel's early Genesis masterworks.

This is NOT new material!!!

Regarding the previous review, this is not new material form Genesis. This is from their first album entitled "From Genesis To Revelation" from 1968. There are some great songs on the whole album. I'm not sure why they have "The Silent Sun" on here as a single.

Great, but not new

It's a great track - but note that it was recorded in 1968 for their debut album - it does not appear to be a re-recording.

In addition, the group has provided a launching pad for the superstardom of members Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins, and star solo careers for members Tony Banks, Michael Rutherford, and Steve Hackett. Their roots go back to 1965 and a pair of rival groups,...
