A masterpiece is finally here!
As a Beach Boys fan, I was really looking forward to this release. Hard to believe its actually here after all these years. This is one album that will be played many, many times. Brian Wilson wanted to take the group to a different place and certainly succeeded with the 1966 release "Pet Sounds." This incredible follow-up is now here for music fans. Finally, we can hear the complete "Smile" album as it was originally intended to be released over 44 years ago. The bonus tracks are also terrific. I'm so glad that Brian Wilson and the entire group finally worked with Capitol Records to make this available. Highly recommended!
An Album Over Forty Years in the Making
Written by an isolated man who many in the music community consider being a genius. The album was Inspired by the greatest album of all time (Sgt. Pepper) to become the greatest album of all time. The album was also Influenced by popular Amercian music of the past to battle the then "British invasion." It was supposed to be Brian Wilson's teenage symphony to God. But, in reality drove (Brian) Wilson further into isolation, upset some of his band mates, and started a political war with Captiol Records. SMiLE is now one of the most bootlegged and famous albums never released. It's worthy of a five star rating, but itunes recieves one star for not having this masterpiece on its homescreen for a day.
SMiLE: 44 Years Later, History is Finally Made
There is not anything to say except that you (yes YOU) are required to own this treasure of brilliance and mellifluousness. Brian Wilson is easily one of the most underrated songcrafters of this (or any) day and age, and SMiLE is arguable his magnum opus. Finally hearing the Beach Boys' original version of the most famous unreleased album of all time is nothing short of life-changing. If you buy one album this year (or any year), it indubitably should be this one.
