iTunes Review
The groaning “Rocky Mountain Way” became a classic-rock staple and a Joe Walsh signature when The Smoker You Drink, the Player You Get was released in June 1973. Far from being a boneheaded expression of groin rock, the songs here have more in common with contemporaneous works by multifaceted studio geniuses like Paul McCartney and Todd Rundgren. Certainly Rundgren’s influence looms large on “Dreams,” while the kinship “Book Ends” and “Days Gone By” share with Wings is underscored by the contributions of engineer Mike “Clay” Stone, who learned to layer tracks by working with Queen. While the album is generally regarded as a solo effort, it was officially credited to Barnstorm, Walsh’s band. Their contributions cannot be overstated — drummer Joe Vitale is the unheralded hero of this album, applying inventive, restless rhythms that nonetheless deliver an earthy wallop every time. This is one of those classics from the golden age of the vinyl LP, and with the right speaker set-up “Midnight Moodies” and “Meadows” will envelop the listener in a world of musical majesty.
Customer Reviews
Life's Been good to Me So Far
Joe Walsh wrote and recorded Life's Been Good to Me So far not the Eagles it was released on the Joe Walsh album "But Seriously Folks". I believe it was released around 1978 - 79. For those of you looking for the "Lifes Been Good So Far" Look No More you can down load it on Itunes right now it is on the disk 2 of the "Look What I Did" 2 CD set which is offered in the Itunes music store. Why this set only gets a 2.5 start rating is completely obsurd. Life of Illusions is also on this double cd set. If your looking for almost any walsh song the Look What I Did double cd set is the buy. Some of the best Eagles songs were written by Joe Walsh such as Life In The Fast Lane and In The City I saw the Eagles in concert 3 years ago and my man Joe Stole the show. Joe joined the Eagles before the Hotel California Album and was instramental in the move from a country sound to a Rock and Roll formula that's when the Eagles really made their mark known. By the way I am 44 and have followed my man Joe since the beginning with The James Gang.
Not for medicinal purposes only
This will be playing on some kid's "spacepod" far off in the distant future because it is that timeless, absolutely transcends all age barriers, and will have kids requesting more music from that "new guy" generation after generation.I'm pretty sure that I'm older than the rest of the reviewers, but I'm impressed if you are younger than me and you are listening to different types of music. There are a lot of us AARP members who are buying and downloading this generation's music. Pretty amazing how music can be that common thread.
Joe's Very Best
This is joe Walsh at his very best. Every song works and leaves a musical and emotional mark. Highlights are the obvious, Rocky Mountain Way, and the not so obvious, Bookends and Dreams. Also showcases Walsh's instrumental skills on Midnight Moodies. Must have album for Walsh, James Gang and Eagles fans, and Classic Rock too.
