Album Review

1998's Complete Adventures of the Style Council, which collected every bit of skin and bone from Paul Weller's post-Jam sophisti-pop outfit, has been neatly trimmed into a single-disc overview on Universal International's 21-track Sound of the Style Council. Listeners put off by sheer volume of the former would do well by themselves in integrating this perfectly serviceable anthology into their collections, but for fans looking to split the deal a little more evenly, 2006's two-disc Gold collection or 2007's Sweet Loving Ways: The Collection would be a better option.

Weller is Stellar

I'm sorry - but Weller is the ultimate singer songwriter - I've been listening to him in all his incarnations for 25 years. He completes me. Buy all his records - put your headphones on - open a nice Pinot Noir and kick it.

DC Thief

No one has stood the test of time like Paul Weller. He is a living legend and will be remembered as England's greatest singer-songwriter. I agree with the above - check the Jam, The Style Council and Paul Weller. It does not get better.

Stands the test of time

I first heard Paul Weller in the early 80s in England. I fell in love with this music then, and have listened to it on and off through the years. Weller has an amazing voice, and the arrangements of these songs is fantastic. I think it reminds me of Sinatra's talent for bring out the best in the words he was singing and balancing it with the music. 20 years on, this music is still wonderful to listen to, and still has meaning and relevance. Definitely worth your listening time. Unlike the other review, I prefer speakers and someone to share this with. Enjoy!

Guitarist/vocalist Paul Weller broke up the Jam, the most popular British band of the early '80s, at the height of their success in 1982 because he was dissatisfied with their musical direction. Weller wanted to incorporate more elements of soul, R&B, and jazz into his songwriting, which is something he felt his punk-oriented bandmates were incapable of performing. In order to pursue this musical direction, he teamed up in 1983 with keyboardist Mick Talbot, a former member of the mod revival...
