Album Review

As punk albums go, The Spaghetti Incident? lacks righteous anger and rage. As Guns N' Roses albums go, it's a complete delight, returning to the ferocious, hard-rocking days of Appetite for Destruction. The Gunners play Stooges and New York Dolls songs exactly as they do Nazareth — as straight-ahead, driving riff-rockers. After the epic Use Your Illusions, the band sounds like it's having fun, not caring about making "art" like "November Rain" or "Estranged." Unfortunately, the tacked-on Charles Manson song leaves a bad aftertaste, but not because of the song itself; the inclusion of the song seems like a publicity-seeking stunt, a way to increase their sales while trying to regain their street credibility. And as The Spaghetti Incident? proves, they didn't need to stoop so low.

Not bad as others say

I'll admit, when I bought this album I didn't expect much out of it. The only reason why I bought it is because I had all of GNR's other stuff and needed to complete my collection. However, after listening to it, I was actually suprised at how it wasn't terrible. For those of you contemplating on whether or not to buy this album, let me explain something to you. This is first a formost a cover album of mainly punk songs, which was intended to be a side project by Guns N' Roses (the project began somewhere around 90 I believe). This is not going to be another Appetite or another UYI, but once you realize that it isn't either of the two albums, you'll enjoy it much more. Like most cover albums, some of the songs are hits while others are misses. GNR's takes on songs like Since I Don't Have You, Buick Makane, or Hair of the Dog suprass the original songs; while other songs like Attitude or You Can't Put Your Arms Around a Memory feel too mediocre. However, the mediocre songs aren't terrible with the exception of Look At Your Game Girl (which was bad because it didn't really fit with the album). Finally, I would recommend it to any Guns N' Roses fan but would tell Guns N' Roses newbies to get Appetite for Destruction and the two Use Your Illusions albums before getting this. Take a chance and you might find that it's not as awful as the critics say.

Hmm...

And the review retardus maximus wrote about this album "killing" guns n roses cracks me up. Sure it wasn't their best but the music let alone this cd didnt stop the band buddy. Since I don't have you and ain't it fun were two huge hits off this album. What killed the band was the tensions between Axl and Slash on what style of music they should gear towards on the album AFTER This, since this is a filler album after all, and how Axl basically was an insane egomaniac and either fired everyone, or forced them to take pay cuts and just pissed them off so they left on their own. Duff was the last one to leave in 1998 when the line up was half new, such as Josh Fresse on drums and Paul Tobias and Robin Fink on guitars. So NO people this music is still great and is not what led to GNR's break up as what our very ignorant friend has suggested. Their break up was based off of Axl going ballistic and killing the band himself.

Give it a chance people!

All you'll ever find is people complaining and nagging at this album, well they're not giving it a chance. Like the iTunes review says, this is as close to Appetite for Destrucion as any other G N' R album comes. Who can complain about that, right? This album isn't perfect, but I definitely reccomend it to any Guns N' Roses fan who has most of their other albums.

Biography

Formed: 1985 in Los Angeles, CA

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

At a time when pop was dominated by dance music and pop-metal, Guns N' Roses brought raw, ugly rock & roll crashing back into the charts. They were not nice boys; nice boys don't play rock & roll. They were ugly, misogynistic, and violent; they were also funny, vulnerable, and occasionally sensitive, as their breakthrough hit, "Sweet Child O' Mine," showed. While Slash and Izzy Stradlin ferociously spit out dueling guitar riffs worthy of Aerosmith or the Stones, Axl Rose screeched out his...
