Album Review
Riding the wave of his previous solo albums during the late '80s, Ronnie Montrose reached his peak with The Speed of Sound. Not relying so much on drum machines and an overly polished wall of chorused sound, Montrose feels much more relaxed here than on previous outings during the comeback years, loosening up largely due to a rhythm section that is tight but not digitally rigid, particularly the drumming of former Mitch Ryder sideman Johnny Badanjek. The songwriting and arrangements are much more focused and breathe easier than on previous records, and Montrose's soloing and melodic phrasing are in top form. If there were a place for casual listeners to begin exploring Montrose's solo endeavors under his own name, The Speed of Sound would be an ideal place to start.

An electric guitar tour de force
The Speed Of Sound is one of the high points (along with Open Fire) of Montrose's many forays into instrumental guitar as a solo artist. This one burns with energy, great riffs and amazing solos. Not to be missed.
Ronnie still Rocks!
Ronnie is one of the true pioneers of rock solos. Hi music is passionate and honest. In today's world of edited, mixed, remixed, dubbed, washed, looped and quantized electronica, Ronnie delivers a true experience from the artist's perspective without having his art hacked and molested. Enjoy continual great music from Montrose. Also, if you ever have the chance to see him live, Do It without hesitation. We remember some great live shows at New George's in Marin. ONE OF THE BEST ALL INSTRUMENTAL ROCK GUITAR ALBUMS
Probably one of the best solo albums by a guitarist. Solid perfomances and great writing this is Ronnie Montrose at his best. Not at all like the more experimental TERRITORY and also very different from his first all instrumental album, OPEN FIRE. I had the peasure of working with Ronnie and he is a real pro. I recommend checking out GAMMA, MONTROSE and ANTI-M (that's the band I worked with him on, here on itunes at last, look for him on the songs SECURITY, INIKI, TELEVISION and LONELY on the albums POSITIVELY NEGATIVE and IT H-HURTS). If I could only own one Montrose album, this would be it.
