Customer Reviews

Chikita is the best!!!

Many of the reviews say this band sounds exactly like Broken Social Scene. Personally, I don't think so, I mean, you can obviously hear the "layering" details classic of the Newfeld sound, but I think Chikita is much more elgant. They are likeable at first, but once you trully acquire the taste for Chikita's music, you will notice subtleties and colors absent in BSS. A remarkable band, I expect nothing but great things from these guys.

The Title Tells the Story

As obvious Broken Social Scene emulator (most evident in the title of the album which appears to pay homage to the fine BSS track "Stars and Suns"), Chikita Violenta employs many of the same musical tricks as its blueprint band. The apparent utilization of dissonat sounds and driving, growing percussion is not a sound for everyone, but for those who dig BSS (like myself) this album sounds like some bizarro You Forgot It In People b-sides. "Laydown" is probably the finest, most accessible track and I appreciated the subtle beauty of the closing track "Breathe." In sum, primarily for those who enjoy the controlled chaos of BSS, which excludes a lot of people more interested in traditonal song structure and musical composition.

Really diggin' it

I first heard of Chikita Violenta through a friend in Toronto. You can hear the Newfeld trademark sound. Surprising release; I'm glad it's now available. "Laydown" could easily be on my Best of 2007 list. Also loving "Eight Miles High" (Byrds cover) and the bombastic "War". Lots of shoegazing-wall of sound production makes it a grower.
