Album Review

While the track list looks a little too heavy on the later years but generally pretty good, the early tracks included on The Stranglers Anthology are mostly live and recorded with vocalist Paul Roberts, who replaced keystone member Hugh Cornwell, and Roberts' swagger is less rough/more cool than Cornwell's. This is a repackaging of 2003's Gold Collection, with the picture of Cornwell taken off the back cover.

Customer Reviews

One of my favorite album covers of all time!

Derek is right about the album though, just a mish mash for the american market.

A US-Only Mish-Mash Collection. Get the originals instead.

I love this album, but don't buy it! Instead do this: (1) Go get the original albums most of these tunes came from: 'The Raven' and 'La Folie'. (2) Separately buy the individual tunes '5 Minutes', 'Rok It To The Moon', and 'Who Wants The World'. They were originally released only on 45 RPM singles. (3) Also note that the song 'G.m.b.H.' is actually a remixed version of the song 'Bear Cage', and may also be of interest. --So what's with this album? It is one of those oddities invented by record company executives for US consumption. It's existence makes no logical sense to anyone but some marketing moron. Nonetheless, it's a nice collection.

Of the four founding members, only Hugh Cornwell had any kind of recognizable historical pedigree, having played alongside Richard Thompson in the schoolboy band Emil & the Detectives. According to Thompson, their repertoire stretched from "Smokestack Lightning" and...
