Album Review
Violin, viola, and cello interpret AFI's brand of punk-pop for this entry in Vitamin's String Quartet Tribute series. "I Wanna Mohawk" draws from the band's 1995 debut Answer That & Stay Fashionable and "I Wanna Get a Mohawk [But Mom Won't Let Me Get One]," though its string-laden churn is pretty far from the blustery hardcore of the original. The surging melodies of later AFI material like "Girls Not Grey" are more effective here. "This Celluloid Dream" and "Leaving Song, Pt. 2" are also highlights, but String Quartet Tribute to AFI is definitely more of a niche buy for the group's fan base.
Customer Reviews
Mind Blowing.
I personally think the person who came up with this idea is GENIUS!! Classical Brilliance paired with rock legends.... not too shabby
OMFG WOW
THAT WAS AMAZING, I NEVER CARED ABOUT MUSIC LIKE THIS BUT DUDE THAT WAS STELLAR (i know what your thinking....no one says stellar) SERIOUSLY CONSIDER BUYING THIS ALBUM...
Perfect
Because this is AFI, of course it rocks. WHen i first saw it I was like, "Ha, losers. you can't play punk on classical string instruments" (I play viola, and I've tried). But I downloaded it because its AFI and anything AFI I will get. I was amazed, They manage to get the songs. They aren't just playing notes they play music. SOme of the punk-er songs sounded a bit strained though. Especially File 13, which sounded a bit folky.
