iTunes Review

The pop success of Dashboard Confessional's The Places You Fear the Most ensured that the Chris Carrabba-led Florida outfit's initially overlooked 2001 debut would get a second life. It's an album that finds Carrabba and company still rooted firmly in the emo-core ethos that spawned them, as ably displayed on the tortured romantic obsessions of highlights "Living In Your Letters" and "Screaming Infidelities." Those songs flog the familiar notion that there are few things more emotionally excruciating than young love gone wrong, with Carrabba embodying that pain with low-key urgency. The extended version's bonus tracks "This Is a Forgery" and "Hold On" offer a sunnier disposition that's closer to the band's more recent outings.

Customer Reviews

blaten display of chriss's artistic tallent

It's annoying when people who have no idea what they're talking about write reviews... This is their first album... so the songs that also appear on places were first recorded on this album... Also this album has a much more positive and optimistic connotation then places, definitely not more "whiny." In songs like "a plain morning" and "hold on" Chriss's knowledge of chord theory and scales is shown prevelently, simply ravishing. The freshness of his voice and the simplicity of the acousitc giutar alone add to the sense of serenity. This album is by far the best of dashboard and probably always will be... It was when all Chriss's raw tallent and emotion were at their peaks, w/o the influence of labels, fans, or people who write horrible reviews.

Pure Dashboard Confessional

This is Dashboard Confessional as it originally was. I know Chris has started to evolve and experiment more, (especially in A Mark...) but songs like these are what many of his original fans were drawn to initially. Just a guitar and his voice. It's pure Dashboard Confessional.

Best Dashboard Album

This is the best Dashboard album in my opinion. Whether you are a fan or just getting into them, this CD is a must-have. It really exemplifies the poetry of Chris Carabba (Dashboard Confessional). Very beautiful, emotional songs you can really sing along too (at the top of your lungs in my case). -Taylor

Singer/songwriter Christopher Carrabba became the poster boy for a new generation of emo fans in the early 2000s, having left behind his former band (the post-hardcore Christian outfit Further Seems Forever) to concentrate on vulnerable, introspective solo musings. Armed with an acoustic guitar and soul-baring song lyrics, he christened his new project Dashboard Confessional — named after a lyric in "The Sharp Hint of New Tears" — and began releasing material in 2000. By 2001's The Place...
