iTunes Review

As part of the ’00’s wave of Christian emo-rockers, Philmont distinguished themselves with snappy tunes and yearning, faith-centered lyrics. After going independent, the band returns to the record wars with The Transition EP, a largely fan-funded project that expands their sonic reach in some intriguing ways. Those who identify Philmont with Relient K, Stellar Kart and similar outfits will find “The Alchemist” (a satire on scientific blindness) and “I Am” (a nervous sort of praise song) to be firmly in the adrenaline-charged tradition of power-pop. More unexpected are the tempo shifts and contemplative message within “Closer” and the sparkling acoustic folk colors of “Last Song I Sing.” Philmont retains its knack for capturing youthful alienation mixed with spiritual longing on “Ringing In My Head.” Singer Scotty McTaube still displays a persistent case of the jitters, though tracks like “You Will Remain” and “Last Song I Sing” capture his more reflective side. The Transition EP takes these North Carolina-bred punksters one step closer to a more mature, fully-rounded sound.

the Last Song I Sing is Ringing In My Head and I Am Closer to The Alchemist but You Will Remain

Philmont is truly one of the best Christian bands ever. They deserve to be more popular. And I don't think anyone will complain that it sounds like Philmont's older stuff because I think they switched it up but remained true to their unique style. A great album that you should buy. If you're just looking for a few songs I would suggest "Closer" "Ringing In My Head" and "You Will Remain"

Ah.... It's nice to have bands like this

I remeber several years ago finding the Oh! Snap- EP with my friend. We were hooked.
And now they're back with an EP, a full-length, and plenty of touring under their belt. And the greatest part about it is they haven't changed one bit- at least not in a negative way. (So rare these days!!) The only difference I can find is that they've taken the music up a notch and the ltrics down deeper. So these I'll definitely be lookin for the new CD, whenever it comes out. These guys are way underrated. So buy up and spread the word- Philmont is transitioning into beast mode!

Well Worth the Wait!

When Philmont released the single "You Still Remain", I instantly new that thier new record was going to not only change their sound for the better, but continue with their amazing music in a great fasion. "The Transition" is a fantastic collection of contemporary christian/christian rock songs that start with "I Am" which is catchy and uplifting. "You Will Remain" is fantastic and is really helpful in a tough situation. No matter what, God will always be there. Its probably one of their best songs they have done. "The Alchemist" is a different sound for them for sure, but its not a bad thing. Its the heaviest track on the album, but none the less is catchy and fun. But as a whole, its probably the least impressive track; that is not saying its a bad track though, just not as on par as the rest of the album. "Ringing In My Head" has a more Contemporary Christian sound to it which I love! It has to be one of my favorites as it talks about God's word and how it helps to guide us in the right direction. Its a sure highlight. Next up on the album is "Closer" which again, starts off with a heavier sound, but transitions into a softer sound for the verse before picking back up for the catchy lyrics in the chorus. The final track is good, but reminds me a lot of a "Relient K" sound. Its a good tune that if you enjoyed "The Terminal", the closing song on their last album, you will really enjoy this track.
Overall, its a very strong album. The only hold back is that its to short... its like getting a small ice cream cone... Its worth every cent but when its gone, you want more. But needless to say, if this is any indication of the future of Philmont, I will be even more excited for the full album that, hopefully, comes out soon!
